As a family, we absolutely LOVE Greece. From the glorious weather, to the most beautiful of beaches and amazing Greek food, its the perfect holiday destination for us and its great for kids too!
Rhodes – also known as ‘Island of the Sun’
Rhodes has the most amazing 30 mile stretch of gorgeous golden sandy beaches which is just perfect if you are in need of some relaxation. However, there are some resorts which are pretty popular with the 18-30 crowd so choose carefully when travelling with children. Lindos, Kolymbia and Rhodes town itself are some of the best family friendly islands.
Rhodes is also home to the one of the largest water parks in Europe which is suitable for all ages so plenty for the kids to do!
The Mark Warner Leavnt Beach resort in Kolymbia is highly recommended and great for families.
Crete is full of ancient culture and is often voted as one of the most popular destinations for families. With clean sandy beaches and shallow waters, this island is perfect for families with children of all ages.
If your children are a bit older, you will find lots of water sports including scuba diving lessons on offer or you could visit Acqua, one of the most popoular water parks on the island. Kids will also love visiting the Dikteon Cave which is allegedly the birthplace of Zeus.
Chania and Agios Nikolaos are two beautiful and high recommended towns but you cant go wrong wherever you choose in Crete.
Corfu is our personal favourite islands of Greece and we have stayed several times, most recently in the town of Arillas which was fantastic and very reasonably priced.
Again the island has beautiful beaches and shallow waters making it just perfect for kids and there are a number of water sports and boat trips on offer to keep the whole family entertained.
The restaurants are very reasonably priced and we all fell in love with the Greek food and the hospitality.
Another water park well worth a visit is Aqualand in the islands lush green interior.
We stayed in Arillas in a lovely studio apartment called ‘Anna Stuidos’, it was perfect for the five of us and had its own pool and restaurant onsite too.
The East side of the island is most suitable because of its sandy beaches and shallow calm sea which are also perfect for watersports.
If your children are older and are ready to start socialising then Peligoni Club of Zakynthos is the place for you. It has all day activities running for kids of all ages, both young and older and it has options for kids who want to socialise in the evening…. giving you the opportunity for some peace and quiet!
There is even ‘in-villa’ babysitting available here! BOOM!
Skiathos has a huge variety of fantastic family friendly beaches and is a popular destination for the Greek people themselves to holiday.
Koukounaries on the south Coast is highly recommended for families with small children becasue of its lovely sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. There are also a great number of water sports available throughout the day. It can however get quite busy at peak times and you may prefer to walk through the surrounding forest to Mandraki or Ellis Beach which is much quieter.
There is plenty of family accomadation available but one highly recommended hotel is the Mandraki Village Beach Hotel.
Most of the UK airports fly to the Greek Islands throughout the Summer months so you should be able to find a good flight to suit you.
Happy Holidays x
