Valerian Root Tea

Valerian root is well known for reducing stress and anxiety as well as  helping with insomnia. A warming cup of this tasty caffeine free tea before bed, might be just what you need to nod off into a deep sleep. I use Dr Stuarts Valerian tea, available from Holland and Barratt.

An Eye Mask

My middle son who is 11 still won’t sleep at night without the hall light on and its really affected how I sleep…. that was until my hubby bought me an eye mask for my birthday!  I’ve since discovered that our bodies are hard wired to sleep when its dark and in the absence of light, the sleep hormone ‘melatonin’ is produced. Its rare to find me asleep these days without my eye mask. I bought this mask from Look Fantastic.

A Decent Pillow

If you asked my hubby, he would say that I had a bit of a pillow obsession… and to be honest, he may have a point! However, I really do think its crucial to have the right pillow, whatever that is for you!  I’ve tried alot of pillows over the years and I’ve now narrowed it down to two! The Next Super Soft Fleece pillow is absolutely amazing and is just like snuggling up to your favourite teddy! The second of my favourites is the Eve pillow which is made from a responsive memory foam which is surprisgnly soft and stretchy. Alternating between these two pillows really does help me to fall into a deep slumber.

Ear Plugs

Once I am asleep, its takes quite alot to wake me up but my hubby on the other hand wakes at the sightest of sounds. Over the last few months, he has been wearing ear plugs at bedtime which has really helped him to drop off into a deep sleep. There are loads of different types on the market now and my hubby loves Pluggerz Sleep Earplugs which have a filter to block out background noise but not important sounds like babies crying or the alarm going off. If you wanted to go all out, you could even treat yourself to the Bose Noise Masking Sleep Buds which are super comfy and deliver soothing sounds throughout the night!

Pluggerz Earplugs, Sleep

Of course, it also helps to have a relaxing bedtime routine, including no ‘blue light’ from phones and ipads. I often go to sleep with a white noise app playing quietly in the background which massively helps after a busy stressful day! I hope these products also help you to get a good night’s sleep!

An eye mask and a decent pillow are a must for me, considering ear plugs next as we live on a busy road and have noisy neighbours #blogcrush

Great suggestions. It’s lovely your hubby bought you an eye mask for your birthday, what a thoughtful gift! I tend to rely on an eye mask and earplugs quite often. I do think a comfy pillow makes a big difference too, though I can never find one that’s quite right so I’m often changing them out for new ones! 🙂

Great suggestions! I’ve heard quite a few people recommend the Lush body lotion. I really struggle to get to sleep if it’s too light so we have black out blinds and black out curtains in the bedrooms. When we go camping, I have to wear an eye mask but I don’t like the feeling of it very much so try to avoid doing it at home if I can. #blogcrush

I really like the Sleepy lotion! I also can’t sleep without a fan on just to provide some white noise. I have an app on my phone when I’m away from home to play white noise! Of course a comfy pillow, mattress and fresh bedding helps too.
